Campus Calling Guide

This guide describes how to place calls from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, including the Main Campus, Foothills Campus, Veterinary Medical Center Complex, Facilities Management, Residence Halls and Apartments.

Emergency

  1. Lift the handset and listen for dial tone.
  2. Dial 911.
  3. CSU Police Department will answer the call.

To call another University extension:

  1. Lift the handset and listen for inside dial tone.
  2. Dial the last five digits of the University number (x-xxxx).

To call a local number in the Fort Collins area:

The Local Calling Area covers Fort Collins, Loveland, Greeley, plus Ault, Berthoud, Eaton, Estes Park, Gilcrest, Johnstown, LaSalle, Mead, Milliken, Nunn, Platteville, Red Feather Lakes, Walden, Wellington, Windsor, and nearby small towns.

All other exchanges in Area Code 970, and both Denver Metro Area Codes 303 and 720, are toll calls.

  1. Lift the handset and listen for inside dial tone.
  2. Dial 8 and the seven-digit number. There is no second dial tone after dialing the 8.
  3. OR you may dial 8 + 1 + Area Code 970 + 7-digit number for all off-campus calls without predetermining if the call is local or long distance.

To place a long distance call:

  1. Lift the handset and listen for inside dial tone.
  2. Dial 8 + 1 + area code + seven-digit telephone number (8+1+xxx-xxx-xxxx).
  3. Listen for special dial tone.
  4. Dial your CSU Telecom 5-digit Long Distance Authorization Code.

Long distance calls using a calling card

  1. Lift the handset and listen for dial tone.
  2. Dial 8
  3. Follow the instructions on the calling card.

To place an international long distance call:

  1. Lift the handset and listen for inside dial tone.
  2. Dial 8+011, country code, city code, and telephone number.
  3. Press the # key.
  4. Listen for special dial tone.
  5. Dial your CSU Telecom 5-digit Long Distance Authorization Code.

International calls using a calling card

  1. Lift the handset and listen for dial tone.
  2. Dial 8+00
  3. The operator will connect you to an international operator.

Operator assisted international calls

  1. Lift the handset and listen for dial tone.
  2. Dial 8+01, country code, city code, and telephone number.
  3. Press the # key.
  4. The international operator will request additional information.
