Frequently Asked Questions

How do I hook up my TV?

Connect one end of a standard coaxial cable to the outlet box on the wall and connect the other end of the cable to the "Antenna" input on the back of your television set.

Where can I get a coaxial cable?

You can purchase coaxial cable anywhere TV's, VCR's or other video accessories are sold. They are also referred to as "RF" cables. They should be rated at 75 ohms.

Why do I only get channels 2-13 when my TV/VCR is cable-ready?

Most cable-ready televisions can receive local broadcast signals over UHF or VHF frequencies. You must select the cable TV (CATV) option to receive channels above 13. Some TV's have setup buttons on the front or back of the set, and others require using the remote control. If you TV offers multiple CATV tuning options, select "Standard CATV". Press the menu button select "SETUP" and make sure "CABLE" or "CATV" is selected. If "ANTENNA" or "AIR" is selected, you will not get cable channels. Consult your owner's manual for complete instructions.

What if I do not have a remote control with my TV or VCR?

Many new TV's and VCR's require a remote control to access many of the programming and setup functions. You can try a universal remote sold at many electronics stores, but usually it will only change channels and adjust volume. You can order a replacement remote control from the manufacturer of your TV or VCR.

What channels can I get?

See the channel lineup and programming guide available on Channel 3 or at http://tvlistings4.zap2it.com/partners/grid.asp?partner_id=tmsmil. Enter the zip code 80523 and select Colorado State University - Fort Collins.

Premium channels such as HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, Starz, etc. are not available.

I have "SNOW" on all of my channels; what should I do?

Check with your neighbor to see if they have a good signal. If they do, maybe the connection between the TV and the wall is bad. Try another working coaxial cable to see if that fixes the problem.

The center pin in your coaxial cable is very important. If it is too short, it will not make a good connection and snow is the result. If it is bent or broken off, it will not make a connection at all. You will either see snow or a blue screen depending on your TV.

My cable has stopped working; what should I do ?

Check with your neighbor to see if they have service. If not, there may be a temporary outage problem.

If others have a good cable signal, check the coaxial cable to make sure that it is still connected to the outlet box and the TV/VCR. Look for any breaks or kinks in the cable. If the problem persists after attempting the remedies listed, please report the problem to 491-1313.
